Purple Flag Offers Person-Centered Memory Care

At Purple Flag™, we understand how challenging it can be to find the right senior care setting or provider for a loved one who needs personalized care, particularly for palliative care, Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia-related issues. In 2023, there were over 800,000 residents living in assisted living facilities in the U.S. More than 40 percent of residents in residential communities, including assisted living, are living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

The  Purple Flag™ program was created in 2019 to serve both those living with dementia in residential settings such as traditional Assisted Living and those who require a secure setting with a higher quality of life that is inclusive to all seniors. Since then, our program has been committed to expanding to better serve individuals in all senior care settings, including hospice, home health, and assisted living. We aim to support our accredited partners in delivering the highest quality person-centered senior care. We feel that providers who demonstrate conformance with our rigorous accreditation requirements make a profound difference in both the quality of care and the quality of life for your loved ones and your families. In fact, there are 10 best practice program standards that senior care providers need to meet to become a Purple Flag™ accredited organization.

Senior Living Communities Dedicated to Memory Care Residents

Our accredited communities have compassionate staff who undergo training in person-centered memory care best practices that exceed the required standards. They work individually with residents to ensure that each person receives the care they need and deserve. Our Purple Flag for Dementia Care™ accredited communities provide a progressive care plan that includes family interaction and educational support to help families better understand the effects of dementia. Our communities are more than just memory care facilities; they are dedicated to creating a safe and comfortable environment for residents by treating each individual with the respect they deserve and continually striving to improve residents’ quality of life.

The Purple Flag™ Accreditation Process

We don’t take our accreditation process lightly. Our team has developed innovative methods to measure and enhance resources offered by senior care providers and organizations. These methods aim to ensure that the care provided not only meets the nutritional, social and emotional needs of the individuals they serve but also promotes independence and a cultivated environment of dignity and respect. With more than 30 Purple Flag-accredited partners/communities and counting, our accreditation program continues to be widely adopted by the industry and set the gold standard in senior care.

Purple Flag-accredited partners demonstrate excellence by providing:

Cognitive and Physical Evaluations

Individualized Resident Care

Our Mission:

Purple Flag™ is an accreditation program developed to recognize excellence and drive continuous improvement in the quality of services provided by those who care for individuals in senior care. Purple Flag™ originated through a collaboration between the Institute for Senior Living Education (ISLE) and the Connecticut Assisted Living Association (CALA). Upon approval, providers receive the distinctive purple flag as a symbol that communicates their commitment to leadership in their fields.
