(BOURNE, MA, April 3, 2025) – Cape Cod Senior Residences, an Independent and Assisted Living community in Bourne, held a flag-raising ceremony today to celebrate its accreditation by Purple Flag Excellence in Dementia Care™.
Purple Flag Excellence in Dementia Care™ is a collaboration between the Institute for Senior Living Education (ISLE) and the Connecticut Assisted Living Association (CALA) and has since expanded beyond Connecticut. Historically awarded only to providers with dedicated memory support neighborhoods, Purple Flag now also recognizes traditional assisted living communities. Cape Cod Senior Residences is the second community in the nation to receive the new Purple Flag for Assisted Living accreditation.
To achieve this accreditation, Cape Cod Senior Residences demonstrated full adherence to Purple Flag’s 10 Best Practice Program Standards for dementia care. These standards are recognized as essential in elevating the quality of care and support for individuals living with dementia. While traditional assisted living communities are not exclusively designed for memory care, many residents experience varying degrees of memory loss, making it crucial for providers to offer specialized support.
The flag-raising event was a momentous occasion for the community’s associates, residents, family members, and local eldercare professionals, who gathered to celebrate this milestone achievement. Notable attendees included State Representative Thomas Moakley; Donna Todd Rivers and Katie Romagnoli from the Alzheimer’s Family Support Center; Senior Living Residences President & CEO Tadd Clelland; and Chris Carter, CEO of Purple Flag Excellence in Dementia Care™.
During the ceremony, Rivers shared her enthusiasm for the community’s new accreditation:
“On behalf of the Alzheimer’s Family Support Center, we are thrilled to recognize your designation as a Purple Flag community. This achievement reflects the unwavering commitment and dedication of your staff and organization to supporting individuals with memory loss and their caregivers. It’s truly a significant milestone, and each and every one of you should be proud to be part of this company, community, and accreditation.”
