This distinction underscores the community’s continued commitment to delivering exceptional memory care for those living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia – and to supporting their families. Originally accredited in 2021, Maplewood at Stony Hill is now among the first senior living communities in the nation to achieve Purple Flag reaccrediation.
This milestone highlights Maplewood at Stony Hill’s leadership in dementia care as the Purple Flag initiative continues to gain national momentum, with 34 accredited providers now participating.
“Reaccreditation of communities such as Maplewood at Stony Hill demonstrates that providers see the benefits and value of continuing their engagement with the Purple Flag initiative,” said Christopher Carter, Founder & CEO of Purple Flag Excellence in Dementia Care and President of the Connecticut Assisted Living Association.
Purple Flag Excellence in Dementia Care is an accreditation program with established standards that help assess a senior care organization’s ability to provide collaborative care in a safe, functional and respectful environment. The program was initially developed through a joint effort between the Institute for Senior Living (ISLE) and the Connecticut Assisted Living Association (CALA) to ensure senior living and memory care residents with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia receive the highest quality care and enhanced quality of life. Since its establishment, Purple Flag has grown to evaluate all levels of senior care and provider environments.
As part of the reaccreditation process, Maplewood at Stony Hill was required to demonstrate adherence to the 10 Best Practice Program Standards and training regimen outlined by Purple Flag for services provided to individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Maplewood at Stony Hill is the fourth among Purple Flag accredited providers to have met the program’s standards a second time. Additional Purple Flag providers are currently at various stages in the process of reaccreditation.
“We are honored to share that Maplewood at Stony Hill has received the Purple Flag Excellence in Dementia Care™ accreditation,” said Lauren Stowell, Senior Executive Director, Maplewood at Stony Hill. “As one of only five Purple Flag communities in Connecticut—and a pioneer of this prestigious recognition—the team remains committed to providing exceptional memory care with compassion, safety, and expertise.”
