Purple Flag for Dementia Care™is an accreditation program developed to recognize excellence and drive continuous improvement in the quality of services provided by those who care for individuals living with Alzheimer’s Disease and other dementias. Purple Flag for Dementia Care™ originated through a collaboration between the Institute for Senior Living Education (ISLE) and the Connecticut Assisted Living Association (CALA). Upon approval, providers receive the distinctive purple flag as a symbol that communicates their commitment to leadership in the field of memory care. Today, we want to highlight those communities that have pursued and shown commitment to accreditation.
Masonicare at Ashlar Village already makes plenty of big moves as the leading not-for-profit provider of healthcare and retirement communities for seniors in Connecticut, but when they heard about CALA’s Purple Flag accreditation program, they knew they had to get on board as a way of continuing their tireless work in memory care.
Their specialized memory care neighborhood at Ashlar Village provides residents with the highest level of personal care in an assisted living environment. This attention to the overall health and well-being of residents coupled with their individualized programming for memory support is why Purple Flag was pleased to accredit Masonicare at Ashlar Village in 2020.
The team at Masonicare at Ashlar Village is ecstatic to say that they’ve already seen the benefits, bringing greater attention to detail to the work they do, leading to a stronger pursuit of excellence from the staff and a greater sense of comfort from families.
“It’s so heartwarming to see families feel such relief in our capabilities thanks to Purple Flag.”
– Rachel Laudano, Associate Executive Director of Assisted Living at Masonicare
During the accreditation process, the Masonicare at Ashlar Village memory care staff went through vigorous dementia training. This equipped them to perform and engage with residents at a higher level than typical regulation requires.
The Masonicare at Ashlar Village team heartily touts the helpful policies and educational pieces, alongside the constant follow-up support available from theConnecticut Assisted Living Association (CALA). They’re excited to collaborate with other accredited communities to work on contributions to making Purple Flag even better, such as through study groups and stronger marketing efforts so that more communities can be made aware of the benefits accreditation offers.
“We really can’t encourage other communities enough to get Purple Flag accreditation, the way they foster knowledge and an openness to improve has done wonders for our own community.”
– Rachel Laudano, Associate Executive Director of Assisted Living at Masonicare
