(MYSTIC, Conn., October 9, 2024)—Masonicare at Mystic senior living community held a flag-raising ceremony this week to celebrate its reaccreditation by Purple Flag for Dementia Care™. This marks the second time in the past two months a Purple Flag community has achieved reaccreditation. McLean Life Plan Community was reaccredited in August.

Masonicare at Mystic became the fourth community to earn Purple Flag accreditation in February 2021, which helped establish it as a leader in senior care excellence. Purple Flag has seen tremendous growth nationwide since then, with 31 accredited communities now flying the Purple Flag.

“Purple Flag applauds the leadership efforts of Masonicare at Mystic to continue their hard work to earn reaccreditation and provide an outstanding quality of life for their residents,” said Christopher Carter, Purple Flag CEO and President, CALA. “Reaccreditation for these communities confirms the overall and ongoing success and significance of the Purple Flag program.”

Purple Flag for Dementia Care is an accreditation program with established standards for assessing a senior care organization’s ability to provide collaborative care in a safe, functional and respectful environment. The program was initially developed through a joint effort between the Institute for Senior Living Education (ISLE) and the Connecticut Assisted Living Association (CALA) to ensure senior living and memory care residents with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia receive the highest quality care and enhanced quality of life. Since its establishment, Purple Flag has grown to evaluate all levels of senior care and provider environments.

As part of the reaccreditation process, Masonicare at Mystic had to demonstrate adherence to the 10 Best Practice Program Standards and trainings outlined by Purple Flag for services provided to individuals with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Masonicare at Mystic is the second among the Purple Flag communities to have met the standards to elevate care quality for all residents a second time. Other communities plan to follow soon with more reaccreditations.

“We are so pleased to have pursued this reaccreditation for our community,” said Lauren Dubuque, Masonicare at Mystic Executive Director. “It stands as a testament to our unwavering dedication to achieving excellence in dementia care and staff training. We look forward to continuing this partnership with Purple Flag and commit to remain cutting edge in the specialization of dementia care.”
