(OLD LYME, Conn., December 10, 2024) — The Purple Flag™ Excellence in Dementia Care program, originally developed to recognize and accredit care settings with dedicated memory care units, rolled out an expansion today that takes its proven program into three additional care areas — (traditional) Assisted Living, Home Care and Hospice Care. There will now be four different Purple Flags to recognize excellence in dementia care.
“We recognized that these three additional settings and provider types also serve those living with dementia, cognitive decline and memory loss. Current Purple Flag providers who understand the benefits of the program and who also provide services in the expanded areas helped us understand how our standards of excellence in dementia care can benefit more people through these additional settings,” says Christopher Carter, CEO of the Purple Flag™ Excellence in Dementia Care family of programs and President of the Connecticut Assisted Living Association.
The principal brand will now be Purple Flag™ Excellence in Dementia Carewith four flag designations:
The Purple Flag accreditation program has seen significant growth since its founding in 2019, with more than 32 Purple Flags flying in three states – Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. That footprint is set to expand into Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia through a collaboration with LifeSpan Network, the largest senior care provider association in the Mid-Atlantic.
The expanded program will accelerate the Purple Flag organization’s goal to bring its proven standards of excellence to more providers and thus benefit more people living with dementia, memory loss and cognitive decline.
Purple Flag accreditation requires communities and organizations to meet a set of rigorous standards when it comes to the quality of life and care. There are 10 best practice program standards that care providers must meet to become a Purple Flag™ Excellence in Dementia Care – accredited organization. The program provides necessary tools and training to help enhance the lives of everyone in their care through best-practice performance advancement approaches. The result is a network of providers working together to establish the gold standard for excellence in dementia care.
